Neal Magnet Middle School provides opportunities for all students to experience highly engaging coursework through our magnet theme with a special emphasis on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Features of our magnet program include coursework through Project Lead the Way curriculum and NC State University iScholar initiative. Neal implements “LEAD” which stands for L-Leadership, E-Equity, A-Advocacy and D-Diversity and integrates aspects of LEAD throughout curricula and magnet themed activities across the school. Students complete student-led action projects, such as media and advertising, student showcases, school beautification, service learning, and outreach. Our students receive STEM exposure from extended learning experiences such as field trips, guest speakers, and participatory family events.
How electives work at NealStudents take four electives per year; two per semester. Students must take health/PE once a year. Students indicate preferences for their electives class upon registration or at the end of each school year and are placed according to availability and preference.

Hear it for yourself...
To Whom it May Concern:
I am a parent of a male child who attends Neal Middle School. He is in the 8th grade.
I would like to say that Neal Middle School is a wonderful school. I will admit that I had my reservations about Neal solely based on hearsay. I attended the Magnet Fair when my son was in the 5th grade and set up appointment with Neal Administration for a visit.
My husband and I went to visit the school and had a conversation with Dr. Fuga who was thorough and very passionate about Neal and the changes going on at the school. As a parent I was still unsure only because of the hearsay. I spoke with a school board member about my concerns and he said, “Give it a try for the first quarter and call me back”.
I called him back raving about Neal Middle School. My enthusiasm for Neal was so strong that he gave my information to other parents so that I could share my experience.
I even sent many emails as feedback to Dr. Fuga in regards to Title I Night on how his staff was very engaging and creative.
My son has done extremely well. He has been on the Honor Roll a few times and with those times his grades have been great. He is involved in sports at the school.
I have also been involved with PTA at Neal Middle beginning with my son’s 6th grade year and currently hold the Vice President position.
The teachers are the best! They always have the students best interest in mind and want the students to succeed and give them extra support and guidance that they need afterschool if needed. We have attended The Rise Summer Camp every summer which is a great program that Neal offers the kids.
As a parent, we want the best for our kids. I have learned never judge anything by hearsay! Go find out for yourself. Neal has been great to my son and my family and we will miss Neal Middle School."
